SAN CLEMENTE, CA — It annihilates aphids and wipes out whiteflies — without the use of pesticides. The Bug Blaster watering wand allows homeowners to control aphids, whiteflies, mealy bugs, spider mites, and other pests safely and effectively. “Bad bugs” that used to hide on the undersides of plants are now completely exposed thanks to this non-toxic pest-control tool.
With its uniquely designed explosion of water that blasts plants from the inside out, the Bug Blaster attacks pests where other watering wands can’t. It fatally traumatizes up to 70 percent of adult insects and up to 100 percent of insects in the infant or larval stages. It also dislodges most eggs, no matter if they’re on the top or bottom of leaves.
The key to the Bug Blaster’s superior performance is its patent-pending nozzle, which, when attached to a garden hose, creates a 360-degree, full-pressure wall of water that blasts pests from the undersides and tops of leaves. Unlike other sprayers, it allows homeowners to work at both the surface and into the ordinarily hard-to-reach center of the plant. The Bug Blaster also removes sooty mold, spider webs, dust and dirt, which cleans leaves and provides a less attractive environment for bugs to re-infest. It also acts as a deterrent to infestation in the first place.
Formerly frustrated homeowners aren’t the only ones singing its praises — a University of California side-by-side study found that directing a strong stream of water to the underside of whitefly-infested leaves worked as well or better than chemical treatments. The Bug Blaster is not designed to be used with any type of pesticide or fertilizer.
The Bug Blaster is available in two lengths: The 30-inch model (MSRP: $24.95) comes in four colors: blue, orange, green or purple. And the 48-inch ($34.95) Bug Blaster, designed for use on large shrubs or small trees, is available in silver. Nozzle kits are also available to convert an existing watering wand into a Bug Blaster ($9.95). (ORDER NOW ONLINE)
After just one application, the Bug Blaster interrupts insects’ life cycle, eliminating takeover by colonies of unwanted pests. Soft-bodied insects are often fatally traumatized from the force of the water, and a single blast can eliminate all three stages of bad bugs, from eggs to juveniles to adults. Beneficial insects such as ladybugs and praying mantises tend to be larger or hard-shelled, and are less affected by the spray.
Patrick O’Donnell, the San Clemente, CA-based landscape contractor who invented the Bug Blaster, recommends spraying infected plants every three to five days over a two- to three-week period, which increases the odds that the spray will interrupt the growth process during critical periods, no matter the particular bug’s life cycle. “We’ve also found that it works well to spray plants that are susceptible to powdery mildew, fungus or black spot in the morning to give the plants a chance to dry out during the day,” O’Donnell says.
The Bug Blaster is available at select garden retailers across the country (you can find a state-by-state retailer locator at www.mybugblaster.com), or directly from Bug Blaster by visiting www.mybugblaster.com. For more information, visit the Web site or call (949) 493-3310.
HOW IT WORKS
Simply hook the Bug Blaster up to a garden hose and turn on the water. For best results, keep the spray vertical and work the nozzle in and out of the shrub with a sweeping motion, concentrating the 360-degree flat spray on the infected area of the plants. For delicate plants, adjust the water flow with the valve at the base of the handle. Safe for use around pets, children and wildlife, the Bug Blaster lets gardeners avoid the potential dangers of pesticides while effectively banishing bad bugs from plants, trees and shrubs.

San Clemente,
Calif.-- (Business Wire)-- March 15, 2002-- The newly invented
Bug Blaster garden spray solves the #1 problem of whiteflies for
Southern California gardeners in a simple two-step process. The
Bug Blaster is simply attached to the common garden hose with
a nozzle that creates a 360-degree wall of water. The concentrated
wall of water blasts pests like the whitefly from the underside
and top of leaves while cleaning sooty mold and dirt from the
inside out.
The Bug Blaster, www.whiteflies.com, is 100% environmentally safe
and user-friendly. For those who refuse to use pesticides because
they present a potential risk to children, pets and even to the
plants they are supposedly protecting, the Bug Blaster offers
gardeners an inexpensive option.
"After only one application, the Bug Blaster devastates the
whitefly's life cycle from egg to moth," explains Bug Blaster
inventor Patrick O'Donnell, a licensed landscape contractor. With
only a few additional treatments, plants regain complete health,"
he adds. The mighty Bug Blaster can also blast whiteflies from
mid-air as they try to escape.
The patent pending Bug Blaster is 70 percent successful on adult
whiteflies and up to 100 percent on infant pests or larval stages.
It also dislodges most eggs. After one application, the device
eliminates colony take over. Additionally, the Bug Blaster saves
time - no more measuring, mixing or rinsing toxic chemicals.
For best results, keep the Bug Blaster spray vertical and use
a sweeping motion as you work the nozzle in and out of the shrub,
concentrating the spray on the infected portion of the plant.
Control the water flow with the easy to use valve at the base
of the handle.
The wand-like device has a 45-degree bend and is sufficiently
lightweight to allow the user to reach easily both to the ground
plants and to the leaves on high shrubs and small trees. A child
or long-time gardener can 'wave' the wand without fear of losing
one's balance. Two sizes are available: 30" wand, $24.95;
48" wand, $34.95.
For delicate plants restrict the flow; for hardy plants or heavy
infestation, just blast away! The Bug Blaster will annihilate
only soft-bodied bugs. Strong environmentally helpful bugs such
as ladybugs remain unharmed.
Gardeners can maintain attractive yards and patios while solving
their whitefly problem because the Bug Blaster also works equally
great for rejuvenating and cleaning both indoor and outdoor plants
of dust, dirt, spider webs and old or unhealthy leaves.
According to a recent study by the Agricultural Experiment Station
at the University of California, Riverside, side-by-side comparisons
with several pesticides indicated that the use of a strong stream
of water directed to the undersides of infested leaves (syringing)
"performed as well or better than chemical treatments."
The study recommends syringing at least once a week with high
whitefly population, then once every two or three weeks as populations
decrease. Sunset Western Garden Book also recommends hitting both
sides of leaves of infested plants.
